Lung Transplant Assessment

Lung transplantation is a surgical procedure in which a patient’s diseased lungs are partially or totally replaced by lungs which come from a donor. This procedure is a viable treatment option for patients with end stage lung and heart-lung diseases.

The first lung transplantation in Malaysia was performed in IJN on the 16th of December 2005. Until today, IJN has performed 11 procedures, including heart-lung transplantation.

Who is Eligible?
A patient with any lung diseases which do not respond to medical therapy:

  • Chronic Obstructive Airway Disease
  • Lung Fibrosis / Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Brochiectasis
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Lymphangioleiomyomatosis
  • Pulmonary Hypertension
