What is the quality of the hospital’s Infection Prevention Program?
It is important for patients and families to know what hospitals re doing to prevent infections; thereby minimizing the risk of infection during patient’s stay in the hospital.
Patients, especially children can be at a higher risk of getting an infection when they are ill. For example, when a child has a surgery, the surgical wound means that the natural skin barrier is broken. This would allow bacteria (germs) to enter the body. The bacteria (germs) may come from other patients, staff, visitors, equipment or the environment.
An Infection Prevention Program is designed to improve the quality of care through the management of infection prevention, education and research. All staff at the hospital have regular training on infection prevention and control, There should be weekly audits to check that staff are in compliance with strict hygiene policies.
A quality hospital would also regularly compile information on rates of antibiotic-resistant infections in each ward and department. The data would then be used to reduce the infection rates through preventative measures. Further quality indicators would include the hospital’s record on incidence rate of Multi-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA)
Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) rates compare favourably with that of other international healthcare institutions’ reports. In fact with each year, IJN has improved on its rating.
