KUALA LUMPUR, 12 June 2024 – For the second consecutive year, Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) has earned a spot in Newsweek’s Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2024 rankings, placing it in the top 50 among healthcare providers in the region. The heart specialist centre ranks at 26 this year, climbing up four places from the previous ranking. IJN also clinched the 46th spot for the field of Cardiac Surgery, a newly introduced specialty in this year’s ranking.

Carried out by Newsweek and market research firm Statista, the Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2024 honours leading specialty hospitals across nine countries in the Asia Pacific region, namely Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.

In its second year, the ranking encompassed several pillars, the chief of which is an online international survey of medical professionals to gauge health providers’ reputation. Surveys for this edition of the ranking were collected from thousands of medical practitioners and health administrators across the region between February and April 2024, which asked participants to recommend hospitals in their own field of expertise as well as a secondary medical field.

For the first time, the ranking included patient perspectives through Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) questionnaires, which measure patients’ perceptions of their well-being and quality of life. Hospitals were also evaluated based on certifications acquired from Joint Commission International (JCI), a globally recognised health care accreditation body for assessing patient care and safety.

Additionally, IJN was deemed among the best hospitals in Malaysia in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2024, which rates the best hospitals in 30 countries. With Malaysia being included for the first time this year, IJN’s debut on this list is marked by the strength of its specialty healthcare services.

“We’re pleased to be honoured yet again in this year’s ranking – and better yet, see an improvement in our ‘score’,” said IJN chief executive officer Datuk Dr Aizai Azan Abdul Rahim. “This affirms that we are on the right path in our journey towards healthcare excellence, and we are immensely grateful for the continued dedication and commitment of our entire team in keeping us on track. Being recognized as a trusted brand in specialized healthcare reinforces our commitment to providing the best possible care to our patients.”   Since its inception in 1992, Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), Malaysia’s premier National Heart Centre, has been at the forefront of cardiovascular and thoracic care. Known for cutting-edge treatments, pioneering research, and high-quality care, IJN has swiftly become Southeast Asia’s leading heart specialist centre offering a comprehensive range of advanced services.

In addition to clinching a spot in this highly acclaimed ranking, IJN also recently swept up six awards at the GlobalHealth Asia-Pacific Awards 2024 held in Phuket, Thailand in May. The accolades received were across diverse categories, namely Cardiology Service Provider of the Year, Paediatric Cardiology Service Provider of the Year, Emergency Care Service Provider of the Year, Most Innovative Hospital of the Year, Electrophysiology Service Provider of the Year, and Corporate Social Responsibility Service of the Year.
