Malaysia Grapples with Escalating Heart Failure Crisis: In Leads the Charge for Urgent Reform
KUALA LUMPUR, 14 FEBRUARY 2025 – Malaysia is facing an escalating heart failure crisis, placing immense pressure on the healthcare system and costing the nation over RM766.3 million annually. Beyond the financial burden, the condition continues to claim lives prematurely, disrupt families, and diminish the quality of life for thousands of Malaysians.
Recognizing the urgency of this issue, Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) today launched the second edition of the IN Heart Failure Conference 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The event, officiated by IN’s senior leadership, has brought together over 500 of the world’s leading cardiologists, researchers, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to discuss strategies to revolutionize heart failure management in Malaysia.
“This conference is not merely a gathering of experts- -it is a rallying call for action,” said Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohamed Ezani Md Taib, Chief Executive Officer of IJN. “At IN, we believe that innovation and excellence in cardiac care must go hand in hand with accessibility and equity.
The discussions and collaborations that take place here will serve as a catalyst for real change in how heart failure is diagnosed, treated, and managed.”
Echoing this commitment, Dato’ Dr. Azmee Mod Ghazi, Head of Cardiology and Organizing Chairman, emphasized the importance of international collaboration in addressing heart failure’s growing burden. “This is more than a scientific discussion it is a movement to reshape the future of heart failure care. By uniting expertise from across the world, we can implement bold strategies to redefine treatment approaches and improve patient outcomes.”
Themed “Advancing Global Collaboration in Heart Failure Management,” the three-day conference features a robust lineup of keynote addresses, expert panel discussions, and interactive workshops. Discussions will center on groundbreaking medical technologies, patient-centered care models, and innovative preventive strategies aimed at curbing the increasing incidence of heart failure.
With heart disease continuing to be the leading cause of mortality in Malaysia, IN remains steadfast in its mission to enhance patient care and drive forward solutions that will transform the country’s cardiovascular healthcare landscape.
