KUALA LUMPUR: A National Heart Institute (IJN) senior cardiologist is part of the medical team attending to the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who will undergo surgery on his right knee.

In a statement today, IJN said that Datuk Seri Dr Azmee Ghazi was chosen to join the special medical team for the procedure.

Dr Azmee is the head of cardiology and clinical director of heart failure and heart transplants at IJN.

“The selection of Datuk Seri Dr Azmee Ghazi reflects the high level of trust in the clinical leadership and expertise of IJN specialists in delivering the highest standards of healthcare,” the statement said.

IJN said the invitation to contribute expertise alongside the Brunei Royal Medical Team was a highly meaningful professional recognition, further strengthening the institute’s position as a regional centre of excellence in cardiovascular care.

“This involvement demonstrates that IJN’s expertise is recognised beyond national borders, particularly in complex and high-technology cardiovascular treatments, built on decades of experience and adherence to international quality standards,” it said.

IJN said Dr Azmee’s involvement also highlights his leadership in advanced cardiology and heart failure management, while reflecting the institute’s continued commitment to producing world-class specialists.

“IJN is always ready to contribute its expertise wherever needed, guided by professionalism, precision and a noble sense of responsibility to serve,” it said.
