When visiting Malaysia from Vietnam, it is important to be sure to follow all of the legal guidelines as laid out by both countries. If you are planning a trip to Malaysia from Vietnam anytime soon, be sure to follow the guidelines below.

Required Documents

Travellers coming from Vietnam are exempt from having a visa if their stay is under 30 days and they hold a legal Vietnam passport. If the stay will be longer however, a visa will need to be applied for, and may be conditional upon your arrival. Be sure to clear this beforehand so there are no problems or major delays in your trip.

Also remember to always bring:

Your passport. Your name as written on your passport should always match the name you are identified as on your visa, or any other documents you are bringing to identify yourself. Minors may be required to show a passport and/or birth certificate. It is important to check the latest rules online, as they change consistently.

Any identification you have.

If you are staying longer than 30 days, you are required to prove that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay in Malaysia past 30 days. This means having at least $500 USD, or 10630000 Vietnamese Dong or 1644.622 Malaysian Ringgit.

Flights

When coming from Vietnam to Malaysia, there are a number of airline options and cities you can land in. Most airlines go to the capital city, Kuala Lumpur, and some other larger cities as well; Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and Ipoh. Airlines you can use include Vietnam Airlines, Air Asia, Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Jetstar Airways. Planes leave from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

Notes

Keep in mind when traveling and making plans that there is a one hour time difference between Hanoi, Vietnam and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
